Description and identification

Veronica verna is an annual herb. Stems erect, 4-30 cm tall, single or branched at the base. Pedicels 2-4 mm long, covered with simple (0.1-0.2 mm long) and glandular (0.20-0.45 mm long) hairs. Capsule 2.5-5 mm long, 2.2-4 mm wide, rounded to reniform, mostly glandular (0.20-0.35 mm long) or with a mixture of glandular and simple (0.10-0.12 mm long) hairs. Flowering March-May¹.

Habitat

In field crops as a weed, in sandy meadows in lowlands and mountains².

Dstribution in Bulgaria

Throughout the country from sea level to 1500 m altitude³.

General dstribution

Eastern and Southeastern Europe (north to the Baltics, southwest to northern Spain), Central Asia, Siberia (excluding the northernmost parts), the Japan-China region⁴.
