NOT protected species in Bulgaria.


Description and identification

Herbaceous perennial plant. The stem is 2 to 10 cm tall, with only one flower (very rarely with two flowers). The flowers 1–1,5 cm long, violet or purple, rarely white. The leaves are orbicular, with entire edge, up to 1 cm in diameter. Flowering season: June-August1.


Habitat

Wet and stony meadows, along the melting snowbanks2.


Distribution in Bulgaria

Found in the following mountains: Rila, Pirin and Vitosha; above 2200 meters (≈ 7 200 ft) above sea level3.

Apennines, Alps, Carpathians and the Balkan Peninsula4.
