Description and identification

Poa alpina is an perennial herb growing in tussocks. Panicle ovoid, up to 7 cm long. Leaves ovoid, abruptly tapering at the apex. Flowering July-September¹.

Habitat

High mountain meadows, rocky slopes and less often in forests².

Distribution in Bulgaria

In the Rila, Pirin, Vitosha, Stara Planina, Western and Middle Rhodopes, Belasitsa and Osogovo mountains³.

General distribution

The mountains of almost all of Europe, the Caucasus, Asia Minor, Siberia, Central Asia, North America⁴.
