Conservation status and threats

NOT protected species in Bulgaria.

Description and identification

Perennial herbaceous plant. Stem erect, 50-120 cm high. Inflorescences erect, 6-15 cm long, with 5-12 spikelets. Flowering June-August¹.

Habitat

On dry stony and grassy places, in sparse forests and shrubs, mainly in the mountain belt².

Distribution in Bulgaria

Throughout the country from sea level to 2200 meters altitude³.

Native general distribution

Almost all of Europe (with the exception of the Arctic regions), Siberia, Western and Central Asia, Iran, North Africa⁴.
