Description and identification

Epilobium dodonaei is a subshrub, erect stems up to 20-100 cm tall. Leaves rigid, fleshy, alternate, linear, rarely linear-lanceolate, 2-4 (-6) cm long and 1-3 mm wide, sessile or with very short petioles. Flowering June-August1.


Habitat

Mostly on the slopes of river valleys (in groups and patches) on gravelly and sandy screes, in rock crevices, rarely along forest roads, from the foothills to the subalpine zone2.


Distribution in Bulgaria

Western and Central Stara Planina, Vitosha region (Vitosha, Plana Planina), Strumska Dolina (Boboshevo, Kyustendilsko villages), Belasitsa, Pirin, Rila, Sredna Gora (Western), Western (Kovachevitsa villages, Gocedelchevsko, Yadenitsa river valley ) and Middle (Asenovgrad) Rhodopes3.


General distribution

Central and Southern Europe (from France to Ukraine and the Balkan Peninsula), Southwest Asia4.
