The species is PROTECTED by the law in Bulgaria.

Description and identification

Perennial herbaceous plant. Stem erect, up to 60 cm high. Leaves numerous, spirally arranged, oblong-lanceolate. Flowers one or several at the top of the stem, up to 6 cm in diameter, golden yellow, usually to its base with purple dots and streaks. Flowering June-August^[1].

Habitat

In the high mountain meadows^[2].

Distribution in Bulgaria

In the mountains Vitosha, Stara Planina (Western and Central), Rila, Western Sredna Gora, Western Border Mountains and Znepol region; between 1500 and 2900 meters above sea level^[3].

General Distribution

Bulgaria, Greece, the countries of the former Yugoslavia, Romania (Carpathians) and Italy^[4].
