Maresia nana (DC.) Batt.

Maresia nana is an annual herbaceous plant. Stems 5-25 cm tall, erect or ascending, most often strongly branched from the base, with thin stems directed towards the top, rarely unbranched, gray-green, sometimes reddish at the base, completely covered with branched star-shaped hairs. Leaves 0.5-2 cm long and 1.5-4 mm wide, gray-green to gray, densely covered with star-shaped hairs; lower oblong-obovate to narrowly oblong, gradually narrowed to the base into a shorter or longer winged petiole. Flower pedicels 2-3 mm long, erect. Sepals 2.5-3 mm long and 0.6-1.2 mm wide, erect, usually obtuse at the apex, densely covered with star-shaped hairs, often pinkish-purple, with a narrow white membranous stripe at the end. Petals 4-6 mm long, up to 2 mm wide, twice as long as the calyx, oblong-obovate, purple to pink. Anthers 0.7-0.8 mm long. The pistil is sessile, with a 0.5-1 mm long column and a slightly bipartite spherical stigma. The pedicels of the fruits are 5-8 mm long, in their upper part almost as thick as the fruits, densely covered with star-shaped hairs. Fruits 12-25 (30) mm long and 0.7-1.2 mm wide, densely covered with star-shaped hairs. Seeds 0.7-0.9 mm long and 0.3-0.5 mm wide, light brown, shiny. Flowering April - June1.
