Crepis schachtii Babc.
The species is PROTECTED in Bulgaria by the Biodiversity Act - it is prohibited to "picking, collecting, cutting, uprooting or any other manner of destruction of specimens in their natural range in the wild", as well as "possession, keeping, movement, transport, export, trade and offering for sale or exchange of specimens taken in the wild". These bans apply to "all stages of life of the plants"1.
Crepis schachtii is a perennial plant. 9 cm high caudex woody, slender, tapering downward into a vertical taproot bearing fleshy fibers, covered with black bases of old leaves; all radical, ascending, up to 9 cm long and 2 cm wide, obtuse or acute, unequally pinnately sallow-lobed or coarsely toothed, lateral segments 4 - salient, reduced into a narrowly winged petiole with broader base, puberulent on both sides with fine pale glandulose hairs, glands brown: stem scapiform, bracteate, slender, terete, not fistulose, striate, ± glandpuberulent, not much thickened near head, exceeding the leaves; head medium, erect, ca. 30-flowered; involucre campanulate, 12—14 mm high, 6 mm wide near base in fruiting head, densely pubescent with long pale glandulose setaceous hairs; outer involucral bracts ca. 10, unequal, the longest 2/3 as long as inner bracts, lanceolate, acute, whiteciliate at tip: inner bracts ca. 15, in 2 series, nearly equal, lanceolate, acute or acuminate, whiteciliate at tip. glabrous within, slightly thickened at base in immature fruiting head; corolla ca. 14 mm long; ligule 2.5 mm 4 wide, teeth 0.25—0.35 mm long, trianguler-obtuse, inconspicuously glanduliferous-crested and hooded; corolla-tube ca. 4 mm long, bearing very few short (0.1—0.2 mm long) stout 2-celled simple or furcate trichomes; anther-tube 3.75X1.3 mm when opened out; filaments long, extending 1 mm beyond appendages: appendages 0.6 mm long, rather broad, sagittate-acute, united; style-branches 1.25—1.75 mm long, 0.15 mm wide, gradually attenuate toward tip, yellow; achenes grayishbrown, 7.5 mm long, 0.75 mm wide, straight or slightly curved, subte- rete, gradually and rather strongly attenuate to the pale expanded pappus-disk, equally constricted above the hollow calloused base, ca. 15-ribbed, ribs narrow, rounded, finely barbellulate; pappus white, 6—7 mm long, conspicuously exceeding the involucre, of one series of rather stiff barbellulate bristles, persistent.
