Conservation status and threats

NOT protected species in Bulgaria.


Description and identification

Cirsium heterotrichum is a perennial herbaceous plant. Stem erect, 20-80 cm high, simple or slightly branched. The leaves above are green, underside with white dense hairs, prickly at the edge. Flower heads several, sessile on top of stem. Flowering July-September[1].


Habitats

Along the streams and in moist meadows in the high mountain and mountain belt[2].


Distribution in Bulgaria

In the Vitosha, Western Stara Planina, Rila and Strandzha Mountains; up to 2500 meters above sea level[3].


General distribution

The mountains of the Balkan Peninsula[4].
