Carum graecum Boiss. & Heldr, also as Carum rigidulum ssp. bulgaricum Hartvig and Carum appuanum subsp. bulgaricum (Hartvig) Bechi & Garbari.

Conservation status and threats

NOT protected species in Bulgaria.

Description and identification

Herbaceous perennial plant. The stem (15-) 20-40 (-60) cm high. Compound umbel with 3-9 rays, without or with 1-4 bracts. Flowers with 5-8 bractlets. The lowermost main leaf lobes of the leaves are as long as they are wide. Flowering June-August¹.

Habitat

On dry stony and grassy places, on rocks and in light mainly pine forests, exclusively on calcareous terrain in the mountains².

Distribution in Bulgaria

In the Middle Stara Planina, Slavyanka, Pirin, Middle and Western Rhodope mountains; between 900 and 2100 m alt³.

General distribution

Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, former Yugoslavia⁴.
