NOT protected species in Bulgaria.


Description and identification

Herbaceous biennial or perennial herbaceous plant. The stem is 40 to 120 cm high. The flowers are grouped in groups (dichasies) of 2-7 on the inflorescence stems. Stamens with orange filaments covered with purple papillae, the lower two at the top glabrous. The anthers of all stamens are kidney-shaped. The corolla glabrous on outer surface. Flowering May-July[1].


Habitat

Shady wooded areas, on the edge of forests, in forest meadows and shrubs in hills and mountains[2].


Distribution in Bulgaria

In the following floristic regions: Central and Eastern Stara Planina, Western Border Mountains (Osogovska Mountain, Ruen), Slavyanka, Pirin, Rila, Sredna Gora (Svezhen), Western Rhodopes, Strandzha (Brodilovo), 200 to 1800 meters above sea level[3].


Gemeral distribution

Southeastern Europe (Balkan Peninsula, Romania and Eastern Carpathians)[4].
