Perennial herbaceous plant, stems are 30-110 см tall. Calyx 5-8 mm long, tubular, with 5 short triangular teeth and broad, glandular hair-covered, anthocyanin colored ribs, thinly membranous between them. Corolla pale violet, tubular, up to 1.5 times longer than calyx; its lobes obovate, rounded or shallowly incised. Flowering July-September1.
On dry stony, often ruderalized places, on silicate and calcareous terrain2.
