Listera ovata (L.) R. Br., also and as Neottia ovata (L.) Bluff & Fingerh.

Conservation status and threats

NOT protected species in Bulgaria.

Description and identification

Perennial, herbaceous orchid with two almost opposite, broadly oval, 5-10 cm long leaves, with 9-15 veins. The lip 6-10 mm long, linear, deeply divided into two lobe, with slightly spreading lobes. Blooms April-June¹.

Habitat

In the forests, thickets, meadows, mainly in the foothills and the lower mountain belt².

Distribution in Bulgaria

Across the country to 1400 meters altitude meters³.

General distribution

Almost all of Europe, Western Asia to the Himalayas, Tianshan⁴.
