Fritillaria orientalis Adams
PROTECTED species in Bulgaria.
Fritillaria orientalis is an herbaceous perennial plant. Stems 14-45 cm tall, erect. The upper leaves are opposite or 3 in a whorl. The perianth is broadly campanulate, dark red outside, with darker red checkered spots. Flowering April-May1.
It grows on mountain slopes, in thickets and forest meadows and pastures, on rocky and stony places, more often on calcareous terrain2.

Grows between 800 and 1400 meters above sea level4. It was found by us in Slavyanka mountain at about 2000 meters above sea level5.
Italy (Apennines, Southern Alps), Austria, much of the Balkan Peninsula (Croatia, Dalmatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia), western parts of Ukraine, Moldova and the Caucasus4:
