Perennial herbaceous almost stemless plant. The whole plant is densely covered with appressed hairs (trichome). Flowering stems to 20 cm high. The leaves are odd pinnate with 10-13 leaflets. Inflorescence with 6 to 15 yellow flowers, wich have 1.5-1.8 cm long corolla. The fruit is lanceolate, covered with black and white hairs. Flowering July - August1.
On dry calcareous slopes and stony meadows in the alpine belt2.
In the Pirin, Rila3 and Stara Planina4 mountains; between 2500 and 2900 meters altitude in Pirin and Rila5 and at 1900 meters altitude in Stara Planina6.

A study in Bulgaria shows that the flowers of the Oxytropis campestris in Pirin are visited and pollinated by two species of bumblebees - Bombus lapidarius and Bombus pyrenaeus8.
