Description and identification

Elaeagnus angustifolia is an deciduous tree or shrub reaching a height of up to 10 m. Flowering May-June¹.

Habitat

Russian olive is a fast growing, especially in the first years. Very drought-resistant, light-loving, undemanding to the soil and gas-resistant species. It has the ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen, which is why it enriches poor and depleted soils. It thrives in both moist and well-drained soils; it prefers sandy, medium-fertile soils, it also develops successfully on poor and dry soils, but does not like shallow calcareous soils. It requires thorough expositions. A fairly dry and windproof look. It prefers a continental climate².
