Conservation status and threats

NOT protected species in Bulgaria.

Description and identification

Herbaceous perennial. Stems erect, up to 130 cm, densely hairy. Leaves on lower surface are silvery. Basal leaves 10–25 cm long, 2-6 cm wide. Involucre with one row bracts. Flowering May - August^[1].

Habitats

The plant grows in forest and mountain meadows and rocky places in the mountains, less often in the lowlands and foothills^[2].

Distribution in Bulgaria

In the next floristic regions: The Black Sea coast (northern), The Danubian Plain, North-Eastern Bulgaria, Stara Planina, Vitosha Region, Znepole Region, West Frontier Mountains, The Belasitsa, The Slavianka, The Rhodopes, The Rila, The Pirin; 0-2300 m alt^[3].

General distribution

Balkan Peninsula (central and northern parts), Carpathians (eastern and southern), Western Ukraine, Northeast Italy^[4].
