Herbaceous perennial plant, reaching a height of 20 to 60 cm. Stem glabrous, often reddish. Lower leaves with long stalk, oval or oblong, toothed; the stem leaves are pinnatisect, the uppermost sessile (without stalk). The flower heads are 3-4 cm wide, clustered in sparse inflorescences. The involucre is brownish red. The flowers are orange (red before flowering). Flowering June-September[1].
Moist meadows and peatlands, near streams in the highlands and partly in the mountain belt[2].
In the mountains Western and Central Stara Planina, Vitosha, Rila, Western Border Mountains, Central and Eastern Rhodopes, Pirin and Osogovo; between 1800 and 2600 meters above sea level[3].
