Hieracium sparsum is a perennial plant, to 80 cm tall which does not form shoots (stolons). Stem glabrous or slightly pubescent, erect, up to 80 cm high, leafy. Leaves glabrous above or with sparse hairs, along the edge and below the veins pubescent, the lower broadly lanceolate to linear, narrowed in the winged petiole, entire or slightly toothed; stem leaves much smaller, linear, sessile. Inflorescence paniculate. Outer bracts shorter than inner, almost glabrous. The flowers are yellow. The fruit is 3-4.5 mm long. Blooms June - September1.
