Holly Fern
Polystichum lonchitis (L.) Roth.
NOT protected species in Bulgaria.
Holly Fern is a perennial fern, It has several erect linear leaves up to 60 centimeters long. Each leaf is made up of many lance-shaped to oblong leaflets up to 3 or 4 centimeters long, the longest ones occurring distal to the midpoint of the leaf, the basal leaflets smaller and triangular in shape. The leaflets have toothed and often spiny edges.[1]
In shady rocky places in all our higher mountains; but also in some lower ones in Western Bulgaria.[2]
Across the country from 900 to 2500 meters alt.[3]
