Description and identification

Perennial herbaceous plant with spherical or rounded ovate, black-brown to gray-brown, 8 - 10 mm in diameter tuber. Stem 30 - 50 (up to 75) cm high, 2 - 3 mm thick, single. Fruits 3 - 6 mm long, with 3 - 4 mm long pedicels, glabrous, when ripe are black-brown; with white bristle on the top of a fruit pedicel. Flowering June-July^{1, 2}.

Distribution in Bulgaria

Western Stara Planina (Chiprovska Mountain, Petrohan, Todorini Kukli, Vratsa Mountain), Sofia Region (Lyulin, Buchino), Znepol Region (Transko - Karvav kamak Mountain), Belasitsa and Slavyanka, up to 1800 m altitude⁴, Western Sredna Gora⁵.

General Distribution

Balkan Peninsula (Bulgaria, Albania, Greece, the countries of the former Yugoslavia) and Central and Southern Italy⁶.
