Description and identification

Foeniculum vulgare is a biennial or perennial herbaceous plant. The stems are 90 to 200 cm long. Flowering June-July1.


Habitat

On moist grassy and stony places, near roads and houses2.


Distribution in Bulgaria

In the next floristic regions: Predbalkan, Stara Planina (Eastern), Sredna gora, Sofia region, Struma Valley (Southern), Rhodopes (Western), Thracian lowland, Tundzhan hilly plain, Black Sea coast; from sea level to 800 meters altitude3.


General distribution

Southern and Southeast Europe, the Mediterranean, Southwest Asia, and North Africa. In the northern and central parts of Europe it grows in nature4.
